Or the picture will not settle, or the sound drifts away from the mouth. Here is what helps.

What Voxi already does about it

Before drawing anything, Voxi asks your browser what it is running on and picks one of three settings. Where there is no graphics acceleration the effects never start — the meter, the phase and the picture carry the moment on their own.

What helps most, roughly in order

• Close other tabs. Each one holds its own graphics memory, and a video call or a map in the next tab competes directly with this one.
• Lower the picture in the studio. The quality and frame rate controls are on the studio page — 720p at 30 is kinder to an older machine than 1080p at 60, and viewers rarely notice.
• Turn the room down. On a watch page, the Room control steps the ambient light down or off, and Mute effects stops an experience's sound.
• Plug in. Laptops on battery throttle their graphics, and some release the screen wake lock as the battery drops.
• A wired connection if you have one to hand.
